The replication of inequalities is maybe a more useful, fruitful way of attacking the subject. How do you work with people who have the 'social equalities' to get them to share with those who don't? Are we talking about a finite resource that has to be redistributed, or something that you can create more of but then have to be really careful that the 'haves' don't just end up having more?
It's interesting hearing this from the French perspective, as my experience living in France v. other places is that there are far fewer opportunities there to move and exchange social and cultural capital. The application of 'liberté, égalité, fraternité' is rather selective.
