Anybody know who painted this?

A friend of mine has asked me to do a reproduction of this piece, but I can't find a good reference. Any ideas? I was thinking it kind've looked like an old Dali, but can't find anything on line....anyone have a suggestion?

Looks German expressionist to me. Never seen it in my life.

and what does this piece mean I wonder, it looks like a doctor is pushing away death for this woman?

Ivo Saliger's Der Arzt is an emotionally
powerful, allegoric depiction of the
physician's epic struggle to save
human life. Der Arzt features a
surgeon fending off death, which has
in it's grasp a patient. A real life drama
involving the artist's sister, provided
the inspiration for this work.

Ha. I'm afraid this had nothing to do with my art knowledge. I should have said perhaps... I did a google search with the new 'search with image' feature. =P Also, I'm a mere 165lbs, so no where near heavyweight.
